We focus on the development of clean energy products. Since we started our business in 2001, we have developed hydrocarbon-based membranes and membrane electrode assemblies for proton exchange membrane fuel cells. More recently, we have expanded our focus for the production of polysilicon, a key material used to manufacture photovoltaic, or PV, cells, and PV system installations and related services.
We have developed, but are not currently conducting R&D, proprietary membrane electrode assemblies, or Hoku MEA, and membranes for PEM fuel cells powered by hydrogen
Hoku Materials is in the process of constructing a polysilicon manufacturing plant with planned capacity of up to 4,000 metric tons per year, with customer shipments planned to begin in the second half of calendar year 2009.
